Lower Angel Creek cabin is one of five backcountry cabins located in the Chena State Recreation Area. A quick 3.1 miles in the winter and 5 miles in the summer. You will get all the solitude without the extra miles, making this a perfect introduction to backcountry cabin trips.

The cabin is supplied with a wood stove, table, seats, broom, ax, saw, and shovel. This cabin was constructed by volunteers and State Park staff for your use and enjoyment. Please help keep it neat and attractive for those who will use it after your visit.

Location:
The cabins are accessed by the Angel Creek Winter Trail and Angel Creek Hillside Trail located at Mile 50.5 Chena Hot Springs Road.
Winter: The Angel Creek Winter Trail provides winter access by snowmobile, dog team, skis or snowshoe. This is a winter only trail and has the most direct route following the valley floor 3.1 miles to the Lower Cabin and continuing another 2.7 miles to the Upper Cabin.

The Angel Creek Hillside Trail provides summer access by ATV, horseback, hiking and biking. This trail stays high, following the contours of the hillside, offering many scenic views of the valley and surrounding hills. It is 5.1 miles to the Lower Cabin and 10 miles to the Upper Cabin.

Special Notes:

Note: The new re-route (Angel Creek Hillside Trail) providing summer access to the Upper and Lower Angel Creek cabins is closed each spring during break-up from early April through late May. For more information and trail openings contact the Northern Area office at (907) 451-2698. Hikers may use the low lands, however the trail is extremely wet and not advised. The water supply is seasonally available from snow and/or creek.
