Upcoming Events

Mark your calendar for July 26, 2025 FAMILY TO PARKS DAY event at Independence Mine State Historical Park.

On Saturday, July 26, from 11am to 2 pm, Alaska State Parks will be hosting an open house style Families to Parks Day at Independence Mine State Historical Park. There will be activities and snacks, as well as information on the area and surrounding areas, with ideas on how to get outside to our parks more often! Partners include Park Rangers and staff, Salmon Berry Tours, TrailMates, Preppers Pack, and state parks Ambassadors.

Our goal for Families to Parks events is to encourage families of all sizes and abilities to visit our parks to get a taste of what our outdoor spaces have to offer! While our events are intended for ALL humans, these events are great for families new to Alaska, brought up by work or the military that are getting acquainted with their new home, and for families that are just looking to get their families outside and learn more about their environment and community. This event will focus on the history of the mine and the unique environment in which it resides.

Are you interested in becoming a Family to Parks partner? We are always looking for event partners who are invested in advocating for getting our fellow humans out and about in the great outdoors! Send and email to wendy.sailors@alaska.gov
