This public use cabin is located near the mouth of the Pasagshak River near Mile Post 8 on the Pasagshak Road, across the road from the river. The cabin is 12x16 with four sleeping platforms, a table, cooktop counter, and woodstove.

The Coho cabin was built by State Parks staff and volunteers using materials donated by Friends of Kodiak State Parks a 501c3 non-profit. The log walls for this cabin are upcycled tongue and groove logs left over from a local construction project. All the interior cabin furniture, bunks, table, and counter were built with local windfall Sitka Spruce milled by Alaska State Parks staff with a chainsaw mill. Window and door trim includes local driftwood Western Red Cedar and Cottonwood.

The cabin is adjacent the Pasagshak River, one of the best sportfishing rivers Kodiak, known for it’s excellent Sockeye and Coho Salmon runs June-October. The Pasagshak River is well known for it's run of larger than average Coho Salmon. According to the Alaska Department of Fish and Game, Coho average around 8 to 12 pounds, but can be much larger. Larger Coho weighing around 15 pounds or more, are the norm rather than the exception on this river. The Pasagshak River is also well known for having a late run of Sockeye Salmon. Although the sockeye run typically peaks in July, bright Sockeye can usually be caught in August, and sometimes as late as September.

Bear encounters on the Pasagshak River are less common in comparison to other Kodiak salmon rivers, but they can occur at anytime. Always secure food and trash inside the cabin or inside your vehicle.

The Pasagshak area is popular for hiking, hunting, fishing, surfing, whale watching, birding, photography, kayaking, and camping. The cabin and front deck have views of Pasagshak Bay where whales can often be spotted with binoculars.

Location:
The Coho cabin is located across the road from the Pasagshak River and riverside campsites at the beginning of the parking area for the main portion of Pasagshak River State Rec Site. A small gravel parking area by the cabin can accommodate two vehicles. Parking is included in the reservation for two vehicles. Additional vehicles must pay the daily parking fee or have an annual pass. This parking area will not be regularly plowed, so snow and ice may limit vehicle access to this site in winter months.

Special Notes:
** Pets must be under control at all times and you are responsible for cleaning up your pet's waste.

Primary heat source at the cabin is woodstove. Wood maybe available to purchase at the fee station nearby. Plan to bring your own firewood or cut and collect driftwood from beaches or down trees. Limited wood available in area. Only dead and down wood should be cut. Do not cut down trees.

Pallet burning is prohibited.

Water is provided at a nearby water pump, though this may be disabled in winter months. If so it can be collected in the nearby small streams. Water must be treated or boiled.

Average temperatures in the summer are in the 50's and 60's. The coastal climate is cool, and high average rainfall of 60-90 inches creates a wet environment. Have warm clothing and quality rain gear, inclement weather can occur quickly and last for days. Winter snow conditions vary from wet and snowy to cold and clear.

Please take your trash to the nearby dumpster at the end of your stay. Although there are trash cans at the nearby outhouse, they are intended for day use and can quickly overfill.
