The committee also provides a forum for gathering public opinion on management of state forested lands and helps build a regional consensus on forest management. Alaska Urban & Community Forest Council Forest Stewardship Coordinating Committee Seismic Safety Hazards CommissionThe commission is charged with advising decision-makers at all levels of government and the private sector about ways to reduce earthquake risks, and disseminating information on earthquake risk mitigation to the public,The toll of death and destruction from Alaskas next big earthquake could be reduced with advance planning, if a new state advisory commission on seismic hazards succeeds in its mission to heighten public awareness, improve risk assessment, and encourage earthquake-resistant construction. Hohn Aho, an Anchorage consulting engineer and chairman of Alaskas commission. Earthquake risk mitigation means more than just stockpiling supplies, knowing what to do when the ground shakes, and conducting preparedness drills, Aho said.
