Nome Offshore Mining
Nome, Alaska is located on the Seward Peninsula and is not accessible by road. This means all material must be barged or flown in. There are many mining opportunities offshore off Nome in Norton Sound including two public mining areas, 89 offshore leases tracts, and numerous mining claims. There are currently no available offshore mining leases.

Required documents inlcude:
A Mining License with Department of Revenue
An Application for Permit to Mine in Alaska (APMA) with DNR: The Public Mining Area in Nome requires a permit for any scale of mining. The permitting process takes a minimum of three to four weeks. Due to the demand for permits, and the inspection schedules it may take many months. It is best to request the permit during the winter months when few inspections are occurring.
Included in the permit is:
- DEC's Alaska Pollution Discharge Elimination System (APDES) General Permit
- ADFG permit
- Operator Supplementary form (If you have Operators on your lease, make sure they are doing the necessary paperwork)
Register your craft with the U.S. Coast Guard
At the end of the season don't forget to:
- Record your Annual Statement of Labor PDF for State Leases and Mining Claims (Due September 1st and must be recorded within 90 days)
- Pay rent for the new year on State Leases and Mining Claims. Rent is due at the beginning of the mining year (September 1st and must be paid within 90 days)
- Submit your Alaska Pollution Discharge Elimination System (APDES) General Permit log to the DEC (Due January 31)
- Submit your reclamation statements (January 1st) and any other necessary end of season permit paperwork
- File your Mining License Taxes with Department of Revenue (Due April 30th)
- File Your Production Royalties (Due May 1) online through Department of Revenue or by DMLW paper form PDF
