Burn Permits No Longer Required

Statewide

09/01/2022

The Alaska Division of Forestry would like to thank you for helping us get through the 2022 fire season safely.  While burn permits are no longer required as off September 1, 2022, we encourage you to continue to abide by safe burning practices.  Do not burn within 30’ of structures and power lines, keep sufficient water to immediately extinguish fire and a tool close by when burning, clear at least 10 feet of ground to mineral soil surrounding burn unless burn is on snow, and fully extinguish any fire you light before leaving.  With Alaska's unique tundra fuel types, ground fires can burn into the moss and duff layers and continue burning for months, only to re-emerge as weather becomes more warm and dry in the spring.  Have a good fall and winter and always remember to burn safe.
