The Alaska Farm Bureau’s mission is to improve the economic well-being and expansion of agriculture and to enrich the quality of life for all Alaskans.
Without local farmers, there is no local food or access to local sustainable products like hay, flowers, or fiber.
Alaska agriculture is growing and can play a vital part in diversifying Alaska’s economy. Whether it’s producers growing food, fiber, our peony industry with huge export opportunities or the businesses that support our farmers, successful farmers mean more jobs and more money staying in our local economy.
At Alaska Farm Bureau, we are in the business of helping build a strong farm community that supports the growing needs of farmers.

Until 2007, the Gamble’s lived on the homestead, raising their family and grew a variety of crops. Half of the original homestead was sold with an additional six acres subdivided from the remaining homestead acreage for family homes. Chris DuBois and Nancy Davidian then purchased the remaining 74 acres. In October 2009, after the major renovation of a 1300 square foot log cabin on the farm, they opened Onig’s Cabin, a bed & breakfast. In January 2010, they completed the renovation of a second home and opened The Farm Cottage, another bed & breakfast. Their work over the last ten years clearing and developing the property resulted in what is popularly known as Arctic Roots Farm today.
We currently raise brome hay on 25 acres, provide vegetable and fruit produce to a local Farmer’s Market, raise yaks for future meat, raise geese and chickens for eggs and meat, and provide a comfortable residence for horses and sheep. Our goal is to supply the local community with non-GMO fruit and vegetable produce, culinary and medicinal herbs and farm fresh eggs, all produced by organic methods. We will continue to provide wild herbs and berries through our North Forty Farm brand. As we continue to develop the farm infrastructure, we will gradually adjust the farm production to meet community demand.

Delta Junction, AK
Surrounded by snowcapped mountains and encircled by glacier-fed rivers, three generations of our family raise the world’s most nutritious hulless barley to bring your family the freshest, most wholesome food possible.
When we settled in Delta Junction, Alaska back in 1983, the Alaska Flour Company was just a dream. We imagined building a farm that would increase Alaska’s food security, create markets for fellow farmers, provide healthy, locally grown food options, and offer our children the opportunity to continue our operation into the future.
We knew Alaska's unique conditions - a short growing season and long, dark winters - would require innovative farming techniques and never-say-quit determination. We cut firewood our first winter, eventually buying a 1,700-acre farm, on which we raised five children.
In 2011, our hard work, perseverance, and passion for nutritious, locally grown products paid off when we founded the Alaska Flour Company, the only commercial flour mill in Alaska. (The next nearest mill is more than 1,500 miles away.)
The mill produces a long line of barley products. Our 100% whole-grain, stone-ground barley products are high in fiber and low in fat, gluten, and cholesterol. And our other products - from our dark chocolate brownies to our cinnamon chip pancakes - offer a delicious, one-of-a-kind experience. All our products are offered at dozens of retail outlets throughout Alaska and through our online store.
Homegrown, family-owned, healthy, delicious food – that’s what it’s all about at the Alaska Flour Company. Join us in making a healthy difference in the way America eats.
Sincerely,
Bryce & Jan Wrigley

Yule Farm is the name given to this beautiful farm just off the Palmer Fishhook Road north of Palmer in 1989 when Karen and Vaughn Gardner were able to call it home.
The farm was purchased from Bill and Bergie Hecker who farmed the land and raised their three children here for over 40 years. The original tract was owned by the Earl Barry Family.
The Hecker Family ran a dairy farm. The present workshop building “Across the Way” was formerly the farm’s creamery. The farm has been home to sheep, calves, horses, llamas, alpacas, chickens, dogs and of course a barn cat since its dairy farm days.
Karen has raised pure merino sheep for the past 20 years to support her fiber arts passion which focuses on soft, warm bed blankets; cozy sweaters and scarves; and felted wool products.
