Point Thomson Development Project

ExxonMobil proposes to develop the Thomson Sand Reservoir from its state oil and gas leases on the North Slope of Alaska. The project objective is to produce 10,000 barrels per day (bpd) of condensate, and to test and delineate other hydrocarbon resources including oil and natural gas of the Point Thomson area. The Department of Natural Resources is participating in the Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) development as a cooperating agency with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. The EIS timeline is as follows:

  • January 2010 – Scoping Meetings
  • March-Oct 2010 – Field Studies
  • January 2011 – Angencies Review Preliminary Draft EIS
  • November 2011 – Draft EIS Available
  • Summer 2012 – Final EIS Available
  • Fall 2012 – Record of Decision Signed

Shell Offshore Activities

Shell Offshore Incorporated is conducting numerous activities in support of federal leases held in the Outer Continental Shelf (OCS) of the Beaufort Sea and Chukchi Sea.  Recent and proposed activities include:

  • 3D Seismic Acquisition activities in the Chukchi Sea
  • 3D Seismic Acquisition activities in the Beaufort Sea
  • Drilling activities (test wells) in the Beaufort Sea, Summer 2012
  • On Ice Seismic Research
  • Development Feasibility Studies including Ice Gouge and Strudel Scouring (for potential pipeline construction), Multi-beam bathymetry, Sub-bottom profiling, and On Shore and Open Water Geotechnical boring.
