Recorder's Office - Search Instructions and Examples

Please Note:   The search program for reviewing historic recording books is primarily a computerized manual system. This means you will still need to review each page of an index (alphabetized grantor/grantee) to locate a specific name (entered in the index book last name first). Some districts have multiple types of indices (Mortgage, Deed, Mining, Miscellaneous, Liens, etc.) and other districts have only a General Index. Likewise, some districts may have a General Index for a certain time period and then switch to multiple indices.

When you locate the name you will also find a reference to the type of document and a specific book and page where the instrument is located. Your next step is to pull up the identified book/volume and go to the specified page. This is the same process used if the actual books were being reviewed.

The more information you have available for your research the better your chances for success. If you have only a name and a general location you may have to review all the indices within your search area in order to find a particular name

Please see the search examples page for reference. If additional research assistance is needed you may need to contact a Recorder at the district being researched.
