Volunteer and Volunteer Internship
Positions - 2012
YOUTH AMBASSADOR
YOUTH AMBASSADOR (1 - 10 positions)
Park/Area: Any State Park or State Parks Recreation Area, may incorporate more than one.
Main Tasks: The intent of this program is for Youth Ambassadors (YA) to inspire other young people to get outside, have adventures, and enjoy their State Parks. A YA will spend time in their designated State Park or State Recreation area and document through photos, video and writing (blogs etc) interesting and inspiring activities and post these to the internet through one or more specified websites at least once a month. A YA may record themselves skiing, snowboarding, rock climbing, fishing, hiking or any other activity to show the healthy fun they are having in their State Parks. They will also spend time with, and learn from, the Alaska State Parks field staff, trail-building crews and Park Rangers.
Required: Must be between the ages of 16-26. Have basic skills using the internet and social networking sites such as My Space, Twitter, or Facebook. Have access to the internet to post at least once a month. Have a strong interest in wilderness activities, conservation, and stewardship, and feel comfortable sharing those ideas with others. Have reliable transportation to the State Park or State Recreation Area that you represent.
Allowance/Housing: None provided. Must have own personal vehicle or arrange for transportation to and from the park.
Time Commitment: A typical time commitment would be a season (winter/summer) or one year (12 month). With successful completion of the first term, a Youth Ambassador may renew his/her term.
