Coastie the Safety Boat

Saving Lives Through Education

coastie Coastie is an animated robot tugboat that interacts with children to teach rules about what to do and what not to do to be safe on and near the water. Coastie uses slogans like "Reach or Throw But Never Go In," "Don't Just Pack It! Wear a Life Jacket!" and "Always Swim With a Buddy in a Supervised Area," plays music and even has his own Boating Safety Jingle, written by two elementary students.

He comes equipped with a real navigation light and a searchlight, rotating beacon, a siren, and air horn, has eyes and eyelids that move meaningfully, and even has his own built-in squirt gun that the kids just love. Coastie is 44 inches long, 30 inches wide, 45 inches tall and weighs about 120 pounds. Coastie is available for appearances in schools and at events.

The Coastie program is presented by the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, and is sponsored in part by the Alaska Boating Safety Program.
