Johnson Lake Campground Under Construction This Fall
Alaska State Parks announces that Johnson Lake State Recreation Area campground will undergo a thorough rehabilitation this fall and half of the campground will be closed to the public from August 15 – September 30, 2009. The east loop of the Johnson Lake SRA campground will be closed during this time to renovate and improve the existing campsites. Improvements include leveling campsites, replacing picnic tables, improving the campground host site, and replacing signs. The west loop of the Johnson Lake SRA campground will remain open for camping.
This project is part of the State of Alaska's effort to address the backlog of deferred maintenance needs in Alaska's state parks. The Johnson Lake SRA campground is located 12 miles south of Soldotna off of the Sterling Highway in Kasilof. Stormy Lake Boat Launch to be Closed for Repairs
Alaska State Parks announces the temporary closure of the Stormy Lake Boat Launch at Captain Cook State Recreation Area, 10 miles north of the City of Kenai. The Stormy Lake Boat Launch will be closed August 11 – September 15, 2009 to allow construction and installation of a new concrete boat launching ramp, orientation kiosk, and improvements to the parking lot. This is a cooperative project with the Alaska Department of Fish and Game, Alaska State Parks and the Alaska Office of Boating Safety.
