Alaska Recreational Trails Plan

The Alaska Recreational Trails Plan established a statewide system of trails to improve the physical, mental and economic well-being of all Alaskans.

The plan guides trail users and trail managers to existing trail funding sources and technical assistance on all aspects of trail acquisition, development, and maintenance.
It is also an action plan for trail volunteers and trail organizations seeking to protect and maintain existing trails and plan for new trails. It set in motion the plan for establishing the Alaska Trail System.

One of the plan's centerpieces is a trail easement model designed to provide trail liability protection to property owners and trail managers. This is a "fill in the blanks" model for implementing Alaska's landowner liability law.

The plan is available as an on-line document or in hard copy. On-line documents are in pdf format and require Adobe Acrobat Reader version 3.0 or later to view the document on-line. Acrobat Reader can be downloaded for free by clicking on the button below. Follow the instructions and choose the appropriate type of Acrobat Reader for your computer. Once Acrobat Reader is on the computer, click on the plan title to access the file.

For a hard copy of the plan, contact the Anchorage DNR Public Information Center. Cost for the plan is $10.00 for the plan and $2.50 for postage if it is mailed to you. Please be sure to include your postal address and make the check payable to "State of Alaska."
