Southeast Susitna Area Plan
On April 28, 2008 the Commissioner of the Department of Natural Resources adopted the Southeast Susitna Area Plan. The plan establishes land use designations, management intent and management guidelines for more than 250,000 acres of state uplands, shorelands and tidelands in the lower Susitna Valley from Palmer to Talkeetna. This plan supersedes the 1982 Willow Sub-Basin Area Plan; a portion of the South Parks Highway Subregion of the Susitna Area Plan (1985); the Deception Creek Land Use Plan (1989); and the Kashwitna Management Plan (1991). It did not, however, supersede the Fish Creek Management Plan. The borough and state revised this plan in 2009 and this plan controls within its planning area.
After plan adoption in 2008 there were seven requests for reconsideration. A document titled "Issues Reconsidered by Commissioner April 2009" compiles the issues raised and the resultant changes to the plan. The final plan published below incorporates the changes made by the commissioner in April 2009.
Copies of the final plan are available for reference at local libraries. Printed copies of the final plan can be purchased from the DNR Public Information Center at 550 West 7th Avenue, Suite 1260, Anchorage, AK 99501.
