Borough of Juneau, Alaska (April 2013)

The Kensington Gold Mine is located approximately 45 air miles north of Juneau and 35 air miles south of Haines, Alaska. The mine site is within the City and Borough of Juneau and the Tongass National Forest. On June 24, 2010 the mine started production and expects to average approximately 125,000 ounces of gold annually over an initial mine life of 10+ years. The underground mining operation includes placing tailings as paste backfill to fill mined areas and provide support for ongoing mining. The project employed approximately 300-400 people during the construction of the facilities, and expects to employ 200 full time employees to operate the mine and processing facilities.
