State of Alaska Priorities for Scientific Information and Research in Natural Resources

The State of Alaska has identified natural resource management and pollution control information needs and research priorities. The State's priorities are being shared with the University of Alaska and other research groups outside state government and the public to more effectively direct research efforts to high priority areas, promote coordination, and minimize duplication.

The objectives of the State's research priorities are the sustainable yield of Alaska's living natural resources, the wise use of Alaska's non-living resources, control of air, land and water pollution, and the refinement of the standards and measures of environmental quality.

The goals of the State's priority list are as follows:

•  Identify and prioritize information and research needs for state regulatory, and natural resource management decision making.

•  Provide an opportunity for other governmental and non-governmental organizations to review and comment on the State's information and research priorities.

•  Advance the State's information and research priorities for federal funding opportunities.

•  Communicate the State's information and research priorities to research organizations of which one or more state resource agencies are members.
