Firewood Cutting Permits

A valid woodcutting permit is required prior to personal use firewood cutting. Wood is $5.00 per cord with a 3 cord minimum purchase, permits may not exceed 10 cords per household per year. Your local area forestry office will have additional information, including road conditions, and maps of wood cutting areas. All road conditions are weather dependent.

Paper birch is the best firewood from the boreal forest, followed by aspen, balsam poplar and white spruce. Aspen and poplar seem to require more time to season (dry). All firewood should season from winter to fall to provide the most heat. Split the wood and stack for seasoning in a sunny, well ventilated place with roof or cover to shed precipitation. The drier the wood is, the more heat it will produce.
