Kuparuk Pipelines

The Kuparuk Pipeline and Kuparuk Extension Pipeline are located within the Kuparuk River Unit and transport processed crude oil eastward to Pump Station 1. The 9-mile long, 18-inch diameter Kuparuk Extension connects the Alpine Oil Pipeline to the Kuparuk Pipeline to bring processed crude oil from the Colville River Unit to the Central Process Facility 1. At the Central Process Facility 2, the Kuparuk Pipeline begins and travels 28 miles east to Pump Station 1.

When the new 24-inch KPL was constructed in 1984, the original 16-inch KPL pipeline was converted to the Oliktok Pipeline, which currently carries natural gas from Pump Station 1 to Central Process Facility 1. In 2009, a 12-inch segment of Kuparuk Extension was replaced with an 18-inch pipe, which made that portion of the pipeline accessible to pigging tools.
