Port MacKenzie Rail Extension Project
The Matanuska-Susitna Borough and the Alaska Railroad Corporation (ARRC) propose to build and operate a rail line connecting the Borough’s Port Mackenzie to the existing ARRC rail system. The proposed rail line would provide freight and potentially passenger services between the Port and Interior Alaska.
For more information on the Port MacKenzie Rail Extension Project please contact Jeff Bruno or the OPMP main office at 269-6987.
Current Status
- Surface Transportation Board (STB) issues Final Environmental Impact Statement (FEIS) in March of 2011.
- STB issues Record of Decision (ROD) in November 2011, which identifies a preferred alternative for the route.
- Mitigation measures laid out in the ROD are currently being addressed by the Alaska Railroad and Matanuska-Susitna Borough in coordination with state, federal, local, and other specified entities.
