What is this and why do I care? Coastal Project Review

8. How do I know if my project is located in the coastal zone?

Alaska's coastal zone boundaries include more than 44,000 miles of coastline and can extend inland along river drainages as far as 250 miles. This variability can make it difficult to tell if your project is within the coastal zone.

The coastal zone map shows a representation of Alaska's coastal zone and coastal districts. If your project is located within a coastal district, you should contact either the Division of Coastal and Ocean Management at (907) 465-3562 (Juneau) or 269-7470 (Anchorage), or the coastal district to determine whether your project is within its coastal zone. Coastal district contact information is located on ACMP district web page. Please note that the ACMP also applies to projects in large areas of Prince William Sound and southeast Alaska that are in the coastal zone but not within a coastal district.
