INTRODUCTION

The Plant Materials Center (PMC) publishes the "Directory of Alaska Native Plant Sources" in response to numerous requests from the public, industry, and agencies for sources of native plant materials from Alaska.

Native plants from Alaska are needed for

  • small and large scale revegetation projects,
  • landscaping on public and private lands,
  • mine site rehabilitation,
  • stream bank restoration, and
  • habitat enhancement.

This "Directory" web edition is multipurpose:

  • to provide a marketing tool for native plant and seed suppliers,
  • to create an up-to-date handy reference for consumers, and
  • to stimulate the production and use of Alaskan native plants.

By enabling purchasers to locate potential Alaskan commercial seed or plant suppliers, adequate notice can be provided to collectors or growers so they can be responsive to plant material requests.

Better planning for community projects

facilitates the availability and quality of the plant materials.

The listings of native plant materials offered by each of the suppliers is current as of July, 2008; however, changeable growing season conditions may result in a shortage of some species.  A call to the supplier is always recommended.  This Directory depends on the response of suppliers, and does not claim to include all producers or sellers of Alaskan native plants.

The Directory is a service to the community. The Plant Materials Center is not responsible for changes from the growers as to what plants they may have available. If you are aware of an omission or error, please contact the Plant Materials Center at the address or phone numbers listed below.

The plants listed in the Directory are normally available as seeds in bulk or packet form, or as live plants - bare-root, ball & burlap, or containerized plugs.  Suppliers may also be able to supply cuttings, sprigs, or other vegetative parts suitable for propagation or planting.  It is highly recommended that the producers be contacted in the fall for plants/seed needed for the following summer.

If you are involved with native plants, please visit or call us.
We are interested in working with you.
